FAQ

A hackathon is a multiple-day event where programmers gather together to build a coding application, app, or project. In the end, the winning projects will be awarded cash prizes, certificates, and other amazing gadgets! You do not need a strong programming background to participate; our contest is open to all levels of experience! Perhaps your team needs a graphic designer instead of the typical coder! Make friends, strengthen your skills and just have fun!

All middle schoolers and high schoolers between grades 6-12 can attend. Unfortunately, we cannot allow college or elementary level students to attend

All participants are welcome to attend regardless of coding ability! Hackathons are a place to explore all sides of programming and try new things. You may build your first program, website, or even app so come anyway!

There is no one 'perfect' build. Projects will be judged based on a variety of factors such as creativity, innovativeness, difficulty, functionality, and utility. As long as the project is impactful to you, it is considered a perfect project! You can create an app, website, robot-- anything you want!

Teams can consist of up to 3 members. You can work by yourself or in a trio! It's totally up to you! We highly encourage working in a team because team-work is a vital part of a hackathon and working with others may help with your project. Unfortunately, teams of 4 or more members will not be allowed and may be ineligible to win prizes.

Due to the nature of such an event, we recommend having access to a computer and working WIFI. It may also be handy to keep notebooks and writing materials to brainstorm and plan your project.

We absolutely LOVE questions. Don't hesitate and ask them on the Discord, or send us an email at magnoliahack@gmail.com
